Networking Primary Science Educators as a means to provide training and professional development in Inquiry Based Teaching

Following the first project meeting in Malta in October 2011, the Pri-Sci-Net second project meeting was held in Tielt Belgium on 30-31st May 2012. The meeting was organised by KATHO, the partners from Belgium and work package leaders of WP2 – Development of IBSE activities. All the  partners attended the meeting.

During the meeting, stock was taken of the work done so far and majore decisions on the way forward were taken together as a partnership. Plans for both the immediate and longer-term work such as the international training courses and conferences were considered and dates and themes set. The look and feel of the virtual platform was also discussed.

Pri-Sci-Net  is a European funded under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) Science in Society.  With a budget of 3 million euro, PRI-SCI-NET is coordinated by The Malta Council for Science and Technology, and brings together 17 European partners from 14 European countries.

Together, the partners aim to further develop 45 existing activities (developed as part of Comenius 1 and 2 projects and student thesis) in inquiry-based Science education  (IBSE) for children ages 3-11 in 15 different languages. To further promote this method of teaching, the partners aim to also develop two Europe-wide networks, one for Primary School teachers, and one for science education professionals. The networks will promote free distribution of resources in Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) and networking among practitioners. Training will also be provided to Primary School teachers in IBSE in13 different countries.

The project runs for three years and will end in August 2014.
