Universidade Do Minho

The University of Minho was established in the early 70’s and is the second largest in number of students inPortugal. It holds a strong reputation in education and pedagogy and in particular in science and technology education.

The university has promoted and participated in numerous research initiatives and cooperation projects and in virtually all EC’ programs.

The Pri-Sci-Net Team

Manuel F. M. Costa is an active researcher on pedagogical aspects of undergraduate teaching of physics particularly in applied optics, environment and sustainable development and on science education and literacy. He has been responsible or participant in over 24 projects on the promotion of transnational cooperation within the EU and abroad and has organized and chaired a large number of international conferences, workshops and training courses. He is member of the European IST Network “Phantoms - Network of Excellence in nanotechnologies” (IST -2000-26021); a national delegate for Portugal to the Board of the Actions COST P7 and IE 0601; and member of the Board of Network of Youth Excellence, NYEX. He is also the President of the International Association “Hands -on Science Network” and of the Portuguese association “Associação para a Promoção da Ciência e Tecnologia, AECT”. He published over sixty scientific papers, monographies and books in pedagogic issues.
